Well not much to say tonight either. I wrote all day and then tonight shippy came over and we watched V for Vendetta. I really love that movie. I highly recommend it. And I also admit it was quite a bit more enjoyable edited without all the swearing (and yet all of the violence WAS kept in tact which is perfect editing my opinion). Anyways, V for Vendetta is a simply awesome movie. Makes you think a lot. The character of V is so interesting. He's a killing machine, and yet he's such a quirky gentleman, and he's a good guy, but he's consumed by revenge to the point that he's a full on murdering terrorist. And he's just weird by all accounts. You want to hate him sometimes but you can't... and other times you want to fall in love with him, and yet you can't. Such a good movie. Even unedited for those of you wondering, it's no worse than anything you run across in real life every single day. At all. It's a really good movie no matter how you spin it. Amazing political piece, character piece, classic vigilante story, almost super hero story, AND dark future tale... all mixed in one. Good movie.
And speaking of movies, ugh, Forbidden Kingdom is such blatant and utter crap. Never watch it. It's that one with Jet Li and Jacki Chan... it's awful. It's weird and stupid and is about a kid in modern day New York who teleports back in time... STUPID MOVIE! Bad effects, bad writing... and it was all the worse because every time I saw Jet Li I thought about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. That movie was @$%%'n terrible.
On the other hand, I have a movie that I am almost ORDERING you all to see. Shaolin Soccer. The DVD case and all previews kinda make you think it's some crappy made-for-tv movie or something. It looks silly, but much more in a stupid way... but I watched this thing several nights ago and I can assure you that it is without a doubt in my top ranking comedies of all time. Hands down one of the most fun, funny movies I have ever EVER seen. I was pretty much grinning from start to finish. It's brilliant comedic work that parodies the kung fu martial arts genre in a way unlike most parodies out there. You simply NEED to watch it. NEED TO.
Also, while we're at it, I was thinking about martial arts movies and stuff... and Shaolin Soccer aside, I have three big time recommendations. Actually four. My first recommendation is that you absolutely never under any circumstance see 'House of the Flying Daggers' because it is stupid beyond reason. No, not in a silly 'Forbidden Kingdom' sort of way... just in a boring over the top absolutely lame movie sort of way (and while you're at it, make another mental note to never EVER see the third mummy movie or forbidden kingdom). Okay, so I might be kinda harsh on Jet Li but fear not, my next recommendation is that you DO see Jet Li in "Hero" because it's a really good one in my opinion. Has some pretty neat sequences and while it ends on a sort of sour note, it's still a neat concept all around- if not a tad long. AND SPEAKING OF LONG my next recommendation is 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon'... probably THE high flyin' martial art type movie. I remember it being long for some reason and a little boring, but I recommend it simply for the fact that it was GOOD. Very well done if nothing else. However, in the end, my final recommendation is- in my opinion- one of the most perfect movies in this genre. Iron Monkey. It's sort of a superhero/vigilante/robin hood kind of movie that is sheer fun, but not to a point of COMPLETE comedy (it's actually quite a riot until the end gets kinda serious which actually just sort of completes the movie nicely). It has a rockin story and great lines and fun action and... it's awesome.
Okay well... not much more to talk about actually. WEIRD! A SHORT POST FOR ONCE!... it's simply a testament of how morosely boring my life has become.
Oh, on a final note Jeff keeps trying to get me to listen to this band, Wolf Parade. Today's song of choice was "Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts" or something like that. Youtube it if you want an easy way to access it (or STEAL it via limewire). Jeff claimed that song in particular was amazing. However, upon listening to it I found that it was actually completely cruddy. Trust me, I'm willing to admit when something is at least GOOD even when it's not my style at all... but this wasn't even that. It sounded like monkeys that had been severely beaten were let into a room with broken instruments and just started jammin away. After enough debate Jeff said I just wasn't used to the vocals... these "vocals" he is referring to sounded much like The Wolf Parade had actually FOUND a wolf and recorded it trying to howl while dying a slow, painfully agonizing, death. Then these wolf noises were mixed with the angry monkey 'music', put together to a tempo via amateur audio programs... AND THEN all played in reverse. That's how bad I found this song to be. Jeff says "well, you just need to get used to it" and while he doesn't agree, I would argue that if music needs some "getting used to" it's probably not very good. GOOD music should catch you right from the beginning and pull you in, not force several listens through for it to be good. So who knows... Jeff isn't a musical idiot though. Some of his taste it nothing short of... absolutely putrid, I'll admit, but who's isn't? He knows a lot of things that aren't too well known that are pretty good which he's turned me on to before. So at least we know he might have SOME knowledge in this field ;) (you know I'm just messin with ya!)
Goodnight everyone. Sorry for being boring. Maybe I'll add this youtube video. Check out this guy's channel if you want because he's made a LOT of these videos.

um... Your opinions of Shaolin Soccer and Forbidden Kingdom match mine almost perfectly. Good work
I second the opinion about the Jeff recommended song. It's no good.
